2D / Stu Pot

Stu Pot (also known as 2D) is a horror movie fanatic who was born in Merkur. 2D lived through a rough childhood. He was picked on by quite a few of his classmates…especially the ones in a group called the organ boys. This group of children, 2D said, had “crucified” him in the middle of a playing field with five a side football posts. Before he became part of Gorillaz, 2D worked in a shop called Uncle Norm’s Organ Emporium. It was there, in that very shop, where 2D and Murdoc met for the first time. In an attempt to raid the Emporium of some expensive equipment, Murdoc accidentally ran into 2D with his car. The result: one fractured eye socket and a coma for poor 2D and hours of community service for Murdoc. Murdoc had the responsibility of caring for 2D while he was in his coma, something he didn’t really want to do. So, in an attempt to end the poor boy’s life, Murdoc did a 360 with his car in a parking lot which sent 2D crashing through the windshield onto the ground…causing yet another fractured eye socket, and, remarkably, 2D to come out of his coma. Now 2D idolizes Murdoc for “saving his life”. Currently, 2D is the lead singer/keyboardist for Gorillaz. Murdoc was searching for a good-looking lead singer for “his band” and decided that 2D would do.  The only problem: 2D’s name, Stu Pot, wasn’t exactly the best name for a lead singer. Thus, his nickname, 2D, was born (being named after the 2-Dents in his head). So, even though he may look (and sometimes act) like a zombie out of his favorite horror movies, 2D is still an amazing musician who provides most of the vocals for Gorillaz songs!

Murdoc

Murdoc Niccals was born on June 6, 1966 in Stoke-On-Trent. From the very beginning, Murdoc has been known to cause a lot of trouble. At an early age, Murdoc would light cats on fire…something he thought was fun and entertaining to do. Murdoc isn’t the nicest (or best-kept) person you’ll ever meet. He likes to insult everyone who gets on his bad side, and sometimes may physically attack the person who gets on his nerves (like he does to 2D). Along with his bad social skills, Murdoc has bad hygiene.  His skin is a sickly green…and his teeth (which are green also) are sharp and pointy. Despite his social and hygienic problems, Murdoc still manages to have a lot of fans. Murdoc loves the attention he receives from being in Gorillaz. He usually does the talking for most of the band’s interviews and award acceptance speeches. This is because Murdoc thinks he owns the band. In some interviews, Murdoc calls Gorillaz “his band”…which is technically correct. Murdoc is the one responsible for finding 2D, Noodle, and Russel for Gorillaz. Murdoc is the bassist (self-taught) for Gorillaz. When he is not playing his bass, Murdoc finds amusement in a bunch of other things. Drinking, smoking, and beating up 2D are some of his favorite things to do in his spare time.

Russel

Russel Hobbs, a citizen of the US of A, was born in New York State. It was there in New York where Russ attended a private school. Unfortunately, Russ was kicked out of his school after being possessed by a demon. Russel lay in a coma for four years as the demon continued to possess his body. He was finally awakened after a successful exorcism had cast the evil demon from Russ. Once he was set free from being possessed, Russel started to attend Brooklyn High School. There, he met a lot of new friends (most were street musicians) and was greatly influenced by the hip-hop music his friends were so skilled at playing. To Russ, his life was going along great. Now that he didn’t have a demon possessing his body, he felt 100% better…but then, life for Russ took a turn for the worse. All of Russ’ friends were killed in a random drive-by shooting. Russ, who was now shocked and saddened, was all alone in the world…or so he thought. His body, which had once been a home to the demon, now housed the spirits of his friends. Because the spirits of his friends now possess him, Russel’s eyes are white. Russ also has inherited the hip-hop skills that his friends once had. Russ’ parents, seeing that their son had been possessed yet again, decided that enough was enough. They packed their bags and moved the whole family to England, in hopes that their son could live a quieter life. While in England, Russ ran into Murdoc in a Soho Rap Record Store. Murdoc offered Russ a spot in his band, and Russ quickly took up his offer. Now, Russel is the drummer for Gorillaz.  Sometimes, Del, the spirit of Russ’ best friend, comes out of Russ’ head to rap with the band. Together, Russ and Del make a great team.

Noodle

She may look small, but don’t underestimate what Noodle is capable of doing! At a young age, Noodle was shipped to Murdoc via Fed-Ex in response to a magazine ad looking for a guitarist. As soon as she came out of her crate, Noodle played with such talent, that Murdoc just couldn’t refuse taking her into his band! Now, at age 11, Noodle continues to provide her guitar playing skills for Gorillaz. Even though she has been with Gorillaz for quite some time, a lot of information about Noodle is still unknown. Her name, for instance, is something she has not disclosed. So, the world knows her merely as Noodle: the only English word Noodle could say when she first arrived in England. Noodle enjoys a lot of different things, which include: The Powerpuff Girls, Tomagatchi Pets, yo-yo’s, her radio hat, and even Pokemon. Her favorite foods include rice and noodles (of course). Aside from being very talented in guitar, Noodle is a Martial Arts expert. So, be careful if you ever get this little girl angry! Noodle enjoys the company of her fellow band members. She is usually seen hanging around Russ, but is still close friends with the other members of the band. She shares a special Zen bond with 2D, and, although Murdoc isn’t fond of friends (or anything for that matter), Noodle tries her hardest to be nice to him.
